Brockport teacher named 2016 Outstanding Biology Teacher for NY

A Brockport High School teacher has been named the 2016 Outstanding Biology Teacher for New York by the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT). Rosemary Catlin will be recognized by NABT and the Carolina Biological Supply Company at the NABT Honors Luncheon in Denver, Colorado on November 5, 2016.

Catlin has been a dedicated teacher in the Brockport Central School District for more than 25 years. Throughout her years in the district she has made a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.

She immerses her students with knowledge during lessons inside and out of the classroom. Some of her many noteworthy lessons involve hatching baby chickens, raising and releasing 200 trout, beekeeping and navigating the Genesee River on board the “Floating Classroom” paddleboat.

“We are so proud of this accomplishment for Rosemary,” said Assistant to the Superintendent for Secondary Instruction Dr. Rachel Kluth. “The impact that Rosemary has on the students and her colleagues is infectious. Her passion is contagious and models the way for being a thoughtful steward of the environment.”

“Rosemary brings an unparalleled passion for life and learning to every class she teaches,” said Brockport High School Assistant Principal Jeremy Moore. “She is an excellent educator not only because of the stately wealth of knowledge she possesses, but more so because of the degree to which she cares about each one of the young people that walk into her class.”

In addition to recognition at the honors luncheon, Catlin will receive a certificate, a one-year membership to NABT and resources from Carolina Biological Supply Company, Flinn Scientific and Population Connection.
