James H. LaPointe
James H. LaPointe, 92, of Charlottesville, formerly of Hilton, New York, died suddenly on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Born on September 1, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Alice Weaver LaPointe. He was also predeceased by his wife of 62 wonderful years, Jean Gilman LaPointe and Sister Sally Lapointe MacLeod of Warren, MI. The things Mr. LaPointe will be remembered for are not the worldly accomplishments, which are many, but the joy he brought to everyone he came in contact with. He kept his optimistic attitude all throughout his life and made it a point to talk with everyone he came in contact with. He served proudly in the U.S. Army in WWII and received a Purple Heart. He and his wife moved to Hilton, NY in 1991 to be near the grandchildren. He was active in the VFW Post 6105 of Hilton, designed and painted both the Parma Town Park Map (facing Rt. 259) and Parma VFW sign (facing Peck Road) and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hilton volunteering as an usher and at the annual church sale. While residing in Charlottesville the past 5 years, he attended the Sojourner United Church of Christ. He enjoyed Senior Day Care at Jefferson County of Viginia Day program. He was known for his wonderful drawings in both pencil and watercolor there. He will be fondly remembered. Mr. LaPointe is survived by three children: Jeffrey (MaryLou) of Spencerport, NY, two daughters JoAnne and Janet of Charlottesville, VA, and two granddaughters: Emily LaPointe of Cary, NC, and Sarah (Bill) McCale of Niskayuna, NY, and a niece Karen (Gary) Laskowski and nephew Kevin MacCleod of Detroit. His daughters received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
