A Special Treat for Dads and Grandpas on Fathers Day
Fathers and Grandfathers receive free admission to the New York Museum of Transportation on Father’s Day when accompanied by a youth ages 3 through 12. The museum’s huge model railroad is in operation, sure to give dads and their youngsters fresh ideas for their own home layouts. Throughout the hands-on museum, visitors can actually climb into the cab of a steam locomotive and ring the bell in a trolley car. Highway and horse-drawn vehicles, models, photos, and smaller artifacts bring transportation history to life. The gallery features a short film depicting the Rochester Subway. And, there’s a well-stocked gift shop too. Admission is only $4 adults/seniors, $3 youths 3 through 12. The New York Museum of Transportation is open Sundays only, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and group tours during the week can be arranged by appointment. The museum is located at 6393 East River Road, just 20 minutes from downtown Rochester and easily reached from Exit 11 off I-390. Visit www.nymtmuseum.org for information.
