Oak Orchard Health (OOH) has been awarded $887,120 by the New York Department of Health to help improve the health status of migrant and seasonal workers and their families. This grant will fund the services OOH will provide to migrant and seasonal farm workers in the Monroe, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara and Wyoming counties.
OOH provides a model of care that integrates patient-centered medical, dental, vision and behavioral health care services – treating the whole patient and focusing on patient education. OOH believes that offering education to migrant seasonal farmworkers and their families can help prevent chronic diseases and workplace-related injuries and illnesses.
Additionally, OOH will be able to provide personal protective equipment to the migrant and seasonal farmworkers, as well as being able to treat in the camps where the farmworkers live. These workers will be referred to an OOH center if more comprehensive care is needed, but this grant helps to eliminate the barriers of transportation and lack of time off work to provide the patient with health care.
