Adult programs offered at the Parma Public Library

The 2019 Adult Summer Reading Contest at the Parma Public Library is in full swing. Read fiction or non-fiction on any device or listen to a favorite author in audio format through August 31, 2019 and fill out a reading ticket for each book read. All tickets will be entered in weekly prize drawings for a year’s worth of “Free Holds” to be picked up at the Parma Public Library. Also, for every four completed tickets, the reader will earn a chance for the Grand Prize Drawing of a $50 Amazon gift card. The reader who reads the most books also wins a $50 Amazon gift card and the person who reads the second highest total will take home a $40 gift card for Amazon. Bonus entry tickets can be earned by those who read the monthly selection and attend the adult book discussion program.

Year-round programs for adults take place at the Parma Public Library. Write It & Read It offers participants the opportunity to bring something they have written and just a little bit of courage for a non-threatening, adult writing group on Wednesdays, July 24 and August 28 at 1 p.m. Bring an in-progress art or craft project to the library along with supplies for Finish It! on Thursdays, July 25 and August 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. The group also experiments with new art forms – currently “Poured Acrylics” – and free supplies are furnished. Anyone who likes to knit, crochet, cross stitch, weave, spin, make lace or any other stitching hobby, is invited to In Stitches on Friday, July 26 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Make It & Take It will happen on Friday, August 2 at 2 p.m. Explore the artwork of Henri Matisse, the Father of Modern Art and create miniature Ribbon Rose Pendants. A Book Discussion of Us Against You by Fredrik Backman will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14. The Movie Madness presentation on August 15 at 1 p.m. features “The Public” starring Emilio Estevez and Alec Baldwin. The film is about what happens when Cincinnati’s Public Library becomes a storm shelter. A Passion for Paint, a free, no experience or supplies needed painting program for adults will meet on Friday, August 16. Registration is required for this program only. Call or stop in to sign-up for either the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or the 2 to 5 p.m. session.
