OFC Creations offers winter performing arts programs
OFC Creations recently announced the lineup for educational performing arts programs this winter. OFC’s educational programs are open to students ages four to 18 and are held at the new OFC Creations Theatre Center, 3450 Winton Place, Rochester.
The new theatre center opened July 13 with 260 brand-new theatre seats, a 56-foot stage, new theatre curtains and drapes, a 100-person lobby and lounge for receptions, a 25 person green room for small classes and costume changes, and a soon-to-be-open second-floor dance studio.
OFC served over 900 students between its summer and fall programming, with no COVID-related issues.
Educational programs this winter have been expanded from past years to supplement reduced offerings at local schools. Programs take place weekday evenings and weekends and include titles like Annie Jr., A Wicked Christmas Carol, Little Shop of Horrors, and more.
OFC is also running camps for students ages seven to 15 during school breaks with Legally Blonde in February and Descendants over spring break. Summer camps will be announced in December.
OFC Creations Dance School offerings begin in January with programs for children as young as three on up through adults. Genres include Tap, Musical Theater Dance, All Male Dance, Dance for Actors, and more.
Safety precautions will continue for all programs, including spaced drop off and pick up times, keeping students in groups of 15 to 20, wearing masks (especially while singing), as well as hand sanitizing stations and frequent hand washing. A full breakdown of safety precautions are constantly updated on OFC’s website.
OFC Creations’ Executive Director, Eric Vaughn Johnson, is no stranger to educational arts programming. From 2013 to 2018, Johnson designed and spearheaded the RAPA’s School for Performing Arts, leading school year and summer intensives. Johnson also served as the artistic director of SNAP Musical Theater for four summers with casts of 80 children performing shows, including Hairspray and The Little Mermaid.
“Many schools in the area are canceling their annual musical,” said Johnson. “For many reasons students are craving to be back on stage – whether it is to prepare for college auditions, grow public speaking skills, or just to escape the craziness of our current world, these students need a positive outlet.”
Registration is now open for 2020 winter programs. Registration information and program details are available at www.OFCCreations.com.
