In August 2021, the Spencerport Education Foundation (SEF) welcomed three new members to its ranks. Known for its partnership with the Spencerport Central School District, the SEF works to secure funding to provide supplemental resources for teachers to use in the classroom and beyond. To help fundraise for these resources, the SEF hosts various events throughout the year. Families and individuals in the Spencerport area and beyond are welcome to take part, or volunteer alongside groupmembers as they work to support Spencerport teachers and students.
The foundation’s newest members are Tanya Silivestro (President), Kristina Martin (Public Relations Chair), and Sarah Youngs (Events committee).
Sarah Youngs is a Spencerport parent, whose son, Devin, attends Terry Taylor Elementary. Sarah says, “I wanted to get involved with the Spencerport Education Foundation to help support students and teachers in our community. Education is crucial and I hope to make it easier for teachers to achieve their goals in working with our amazing students. I like to volunteer with the fundraising team to ensure that when an item is approved, I know the funds will be there to assist our teachers. The people on this team are amazing and I love working with them to achieve our goals.”
New member Tanya Silivestro is taking the reins as President of the Foundation, and she has previously served on the Canal View Elementary PTO for 11 years. As a district resident for over 18 years, Tanya and her husband have had one son graduate already and their daughter will graduate in 2025. About joining the foundation, Tanya says “I always want to give back to those that give to us. This organization allows me to do my part with assisting teachers who want to do a little more for our students’ needs, yet could not be attained through budget funding. Our organization partners with the community and our district to further our district’s teachers’ and staffs’ capabilities. That’s what Spencerport is about, and the basis for joining this great group of people, working together to build on our children’s opportunities.”
Kristina Martin joined this past August as well, after moving to the district in 2019. “As a member of the Spencerport community, I believe in supporting our children and young adults on their educational journey. Getting to be a part of the Spencerport Education Foundation allows us to support the school district and provide opportunities for learning, development and exploration. I look forward to getting our great community involved in our efforts,” says Kristina. She will take over as the chair for Public Relations.
SEF is currently hosting a fundraiser in conjunction with Texas Bar-B-Q Joint. Community members can place orders for the famous ‘Outlaw Potato’ on the foundation website, spencerporteducationfoundation.org/support, through September 26. Each potato is $11, and can be ordered with pulled pork or chicken. Meal pick-up will take place at the Spencerport Firemen’s Field near the canal on Thursday September 30, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
