Fisher, Light lead Blue Devils win
Junior Anna Fisher had three RBIs and classmate Taylor Light allowed just four hits in pitching a shutout as Brockport defeated Hilton in girls softball 11-0 in a game shortened by rain to six innings.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a rally started on a one-out single by Shelby Perry. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Serenna Roose and scored on a throwing error on an infield grounder by Julia DiMartino. She scored on an RBI triple by Perry, who later crossed the late on a wild pitch.
Light slammed a one-out home run to straight away center field in the bottom of the second inning to extend the lead to 4-0. It marked the first home run of the season for the Blue Devils.
Brockport batted around in the third inning and scored four runs.
Roose began the rally with a one-out bunt single and stole second. DiMartino drove her in with an RBI double and scored herself on an RBI single by Shannon Allen. Fisher knocked in Allen, who had stolen second and advanced to third on a throwing error, with a fielder’s choice. Later in the inning Sophia Avery was hit by a pitch and later came around to score on an RBI single by Brooke Falsion.
The Blue Devils extended the lead to 11-0 with three more runs in their half of the fourth. Roose singled and stole second before advancing to third on a single by Allen. After Allen stole second, she and Roose scored on a bases-clearing double by Fisher, who later scored on a fielder’s choice RBI from Avery.
Light tossed six innings and scattered four hits while allowing just three base-runners to reach third base in picking up the win.
