During a special joint meeting of the town boards of Hamlin, Clarkson and Kendall held Monday, March 4, at the Hamlin Town Hall, the first five commissioners and a treasurer were appointed for the newly created Hamlin Morton Walker Fire District.
The Fire Commissioners are: Ron Breslawski, Jim Guion, Linda Morey, Daryl Prince and Glen Unterborn. Vickie Breslawski was appointed treasurer.
All were sworn-in by the Honorable Judge Paul S. Rath.
Hamlin Morton Walker Fire District Administrator Jerry Clement said the consolidation of the separate districts into one follows an independent study of the advantages and disadvantages of consolidation; fire district resolutions to pursue consolidation; planning; a public hearing; election of fire chiefs and line officers and a vote to consolidate which took place February 26 with commissioners from the three former districts passing a joint resolution.
“The benefits of consolidation have been identified as improved service, improved operations and cost savings,” Clement said.
Following the vote, Hamlin Supervisor Tom Breslawski said the entire process of consolidation was handled professionally. He said he watched from the beginning three dedicated groups of public servants working together to become one stronger organization.
The commissioners and treasurer terms expire December 31, 2013. Clement said the first fire district election will be held in December 2013.
