YWCA Rochester & Monroe County CEO Dr. Myra Henry was invited to the White House alongside other members of YWCAs of New York State (NYS) to participate in Communities In Action: Building a Better New York on December 14.
The Biden-Harris Administration created the Communities In Action series to give every state a platform to address its unique needs and priorities. The agenda for Building a Better New York will include discussions on infrastructure, clean energy, and healthcare costs.
YWCA Rochester and YWCAs of NYS are unified through their mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The associations’ policy priorities for this half-day session included health, economic, safety, and racial justice initiatives.
“It is truly an honor to represent YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County at the Biden-Harris Communities in Action conversations at the White House,” said Dr. Henry. “YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County’s work in housing, addiction recovery and community engagement is directly impacted by the policies and funding from the federal, state and local levels. It is important to be in the room to celebrate investments by the Biden-Harris administration that have truly lifted the lives of the women and families we serve as well as highlight areas that still need federal dollars to enhance the lives of some of our most vulnerable neighbors.”
Dr. Henry explains that, “YWCA’s across the country and around the world provide critical human and social services for women, children and families. YWCAs of NYS make up 10% of our network and as a strong state sisterhood we advocate for access to services, affordable childcare and affordable housing among other important issues that impact the lives of women and families in New York State.”
