Michael Bourne has been appointed as the new principal of Spencerport High School, starting in June 2024. He will be working closely with retiring Principal Sean McCabe during his initial onboarding to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.
Superintendent Ty Zinkiewich said, “We are pleased to welcome Mike Bourne as the new principal of Spencerport High School. His vision, dedication, and drive for excellence are all qualities that we believe will make a great fit, and we look forward to the continued growth and success of our students and school.”
The Board of Education officially approved his appointment on March 26, following a thorough search process that included stakeholder input and interviews by a committee consisting of students, parents/guardians, staff, civic leaders, and board members.
Bourne comes to Spencerport from the Brockport Central School District, where he has worked as an administrator since 2013. Specifically, he has been an assistant principal for the last nine years and the coordinator of inclusive education for two years. His career in education began in 2005, teaching social studies at the secondary level in the Kendall Central School District and for two years serving as their coordinator of special education.
“The Spencerport community means so much to me and my family,” Bourne said. “As a Spencerport graduate and long-time resident, I am beyond excited to return to my Ranger roots. I’m looking forward to working with our Spencerport High School students, faculty, and families to provide a top-notch educational experience that serves as a capstone of a journey that started back in elementary school. I can’t wait to get started! Go Rangers!”
Bourne holds a bachelor’s degree in adolescence education from SUNY Cortland, a master’s degree in education and human development from SUNY Brockport, and an advanced certificate in school district leadership from SUNY Brockport.
