Bees tie #4 Kendall in soccer
Byron-Bergen and host Kendall each netted a goal in the first half in a 1-1 tie. The Eagles were ranked fourth in Class C in the New York State Sportswriters Association Ocober 6 poll.
Kendall threatened in the fourth minute as Jake Adams sent a cross from the left wing to Skyler Heller, but a diving save by Bees goalkeeper Brandon Burke kept it out of the net.
Byron-Bergen broke through at 11:24 as Adam Strassner converted a Jordan Coffta pass from the left corner for the 1-0 lead.
It was short-lived as Kendall tied the contest in the 24th minute. Jake Adams passed to Will Condo, whose shot glanced off the goalkeeper and in off the right post.
The Eagles had the two best scoring opportunities the rest of the way in the tightly checked game with Burke saving a Condo header off a corner kick by Cody Travis in the 55th minute. He made another clutch save in overtime as Kendall patiently passed the ball between Condo, Zach Vogt and Adams before the scoring attempt was stopped.
Byron-Bergen wraps up the regular season with four consecutive home games – the finale October 17 against rival Holley.
Kendall plays Wilson Magnet at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester October 14 before wrapping up their regular season at Albion on the 17th as well. They are expected to be the top-seed for the Section V playoffs that begin the week of October 20.
