Luka Doncic named Hickok Belt® Award winner for May 2024

A select panel of National Sports Media Association (NSMA) voters has chosen basketball superstar Luka Doncic, point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, as the winner of the May 2024 Hickok Belt® Award. This is the third time he has been named the Hickok Belt® monthly winner. He led the Mavericks to their third NBA Western Conference Finals. Doncic was selected to his fifth All-Star team, one of three players to do it before the age of 26. On May 15, he delivered his sixth career playoff triple-double. The next day he scored his fourth triple-double of this playoff season. Finally, he became the sixth player in NBA history to lead his team to the NBA Finals while leading the team in points, rebounds and assists. He was awarded the Western Conference Finals MVP. The 6’7” 25-year-old Luka Doncic continues to move forward in his remarkable career.

Other finalists for May in order of how the NSMA ranked them were: Xander Schauffele (golf), Aaron Judge (baseball), Scott Dixon (auto racing), Chris Sale (baseball), Nelly Korda (golf), Iga Swiatek (tennis), Evan Bouchard (hockey), Canelo Alvarez (boxing), and Jeremy Swayman (hockey).
Doncic’s selection as the Hickok Belt winner for May recognizes him as “the best of the best” in professional sports for the month, and makes him the fifth candidate eligible to receive the 2024 overall award, joining Scottie Scheffler, Mikaela Shiffrin, Patrick Mahomes, Jannik Sinner and other finalists throughout the year based on NSMA voting.
