The Spencerport Board of Education announced that Leah Brown, who recently completed a three-year term on the board, will fill the 10-month vacancy left by retiring member, Gary Bracken.

Vice President Lori Stone spoke on behalf of the board, saying, “We are incredibly fortunate that Leah has agreed to serve the remaining 10-months of this term. Her extensive knowledge and understanding of our district initiatives, as well as her familiarity with operations and budget development, will ensure we have continuity and experience for this abbreviated time.”

In May 2025, voters will have the opportunity to elect a candidate to fill this position. The candidate with the highest number of votes in next year’s election will be sworn in immediately to serve a three-year plus 40+ day term. The unanimous decision to appoint Ms. Brown aims to provide clarity and transparency regarding the board vacancy and the process for filling it. Further, the decision follows legal counsel’s advice and aligns with New York State Education Law, ensuring the proper steps have been taken to fill the vacancy as of July 1.
