Ribbon-cutting celebrates Grand Re-opening of Grandpa Sam’s Italian Kitchen

Grandpa Sam’s Italian Kitchen is pleased to celebrate its 10-year anniversary and grand re-opening at 138 South Union Street, Spencerport. On Friday, October 9 at 10 a.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the special occassion.

“We’ve been hard at work remodeling our space to include a wine and beer bar,” said Alba Alonci, owner. “We are excited to have a great wine and beer selection and the ability to pair them with meat and cheese trays for a quick appetizer, happy hours, and to include a cocktail and wine of the day.”

What began as a small local dining room in 2005 has grown to more than double its original space in just ten years, and now employs 32 staff members. Grandpa Sam’s Italian Kitchen has a warm and cozy feeling, while being able to accommodate both small intimate dinners and larger parties.

The restaurant launched in 2005 after a friend of the family, having tasted a mugliulati (a bread stuffed with sausage and cheese) liked it so much he suggested that the family open a restaurant so that others could enjoy the cooking, too.

Named after the family patriarch, Salvatore “Sam” Alonci, Grandpa Sam loved making sure he kept his family and his community well-fed. Whether as a farmer in Realamonte, Italy; a WWII prisoner of war; or a father, son, grandfather and friend – Sam was known for his generosity, farming and gardening skills and his amazing Italian cooking.

Grandpa Sam passed away years before the restaurant opened, so in honor of how much his grandchildren loved him and all he had done, they named the restaurant in his honor.

Grandpa Sam’s Italian Kitchen serves Italian cuisine in the heart of Spencerport, just a short walk from the Erie Canal, on Spencerport’s main thoroughfare, South Union Street.

The owners give credit to their amazing staff for the past ten years of service to their loyal customers. “We are so blessed to be a part of the wonderful community of Spencerport, and to be able to share our family’s heritage through food with so many people,” said Alonci. “We look forward to welcoming people to our dining room for years to come.”

Area dignitaries and the Spencerport Area Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to offer remarks, assist with the ribbon-cutting, and welcome the community to the newly remodeled restaurant.
