JLU Child Care offers an oasis for Brockport families

Heading into her twelfth year of serving the Spencerport community’s childcare needs, Leslie Ball, owner of JLU Child Care, wasn’t searching for new challenges. Then she received notice that New York State was hoping to encourage growth in child care options, especially in communities designated as “child care deserts.”

Deserts are regions that do not offer enough childcare spots to meet family needs. The Village of Brockport is a community that has received that designation. The NYS Office of Children and Family services is offering grants totaling $100 million to launch new centers.

“When we considered this ideal location and the existing need in the community, the idea of starting over again became more intriguing,” said Ball. “We hope to be able to do for Brockport what JLU has meant to the Spencerport community. Families are searching for the best possible options.”

JLU offers a Christian curriculum for children six weeks through 12 years of age. The Spencerport location has grown over the last decade to serve 160 children and their families.

JLU Brockport is located in Grinds Plaza at 122 West Avenue, directly across the parking lot from Strong West. The center is currently being renovated and is on schedule to open in September, in time for the upcoming school year.

Enrollment is now open. Brockport families interested in more information are encouraged to visit www.jluchildcare.com or call 352-0017.
