Brockport Holiday of Lights Parade a crowd pleaser for many
The temps were in the low 30’s Sunday, December 8, but that didn’t stop people from crowding Main Street for the third annual “Brockport Holiday of Lights Parade.” It was again a very festive, fun-filled family evening in Brockport.
About 35 units participated in this year’s parade. We had many new participants this year including the Kendall Lawn Chair Ladies and Bentley Brothers who brought Santa and Mrs. Claus down Main Street riding a Kubota. Bentley Brothers sign read “Santa traded in his deer this year for a Kubota.” Many people were anxious to see last year’s grand prize winner, Sunnking Recycling, and what they would do for this year and Sunnking did not disappoint anyone. Sunnking had a very long and large “Heat Miser Cold Miser” entry. Brockport Transportation Department did a great job turning a school bus into Rudolph the red nose reindeer.
One of the hardest jobs of the night feel onto our judges. Each entry is scored and prize money was given to the following.
•Honorable Mentions go to Bentley Brothers and The Dog Wash. Each will receive a $25 award.
•Best non-profit went to Nativity Church. Nativity will receive a $50 cash award.
•Santa’s Choice award went to Partyka Farms and they get $75.
•Most Creative award went to Sunnking Recycling. Sunnking will be given $150 award.
•As voted on by the five judge panel, this year’s Best Overall award goes to the Hamlin Fire Department. Hamlin Fire Department will receive $175 award.
I want to thank the parade committee of Rachael and Kent Blair, Joy Levandowski and all put in many long hours helping organize the parade. Along with a long list of others who helped like the Brockport Fire Police, Brockport DPW, Brockport Police Explorers, The Village of Brockport just to name a few. We greatly appreciate Jeremy Newman and Caurie Putnam for emceeing the event and doing a great job. Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors for their generous donations that helps make the night a huge success. Again this year the night ended with a few bangs. Sunnking Recycling Center once again provided the perfect ending by sponsoring the fireworks display. The Holiday of Lights Parade is a community event and this short list of people who help us goes to show that it takes a community to pull this off every year. I want to thank all those who participated in this year’s parade. Your hard work and creativity made the night very enjoyable for all. We hope that all you are back next year.
Lastly and certainly not least, I want to say mega thank you to all of you who came out on a cold night to enjoy this annual event. When we saw another very large crowd of people lining Main Street, with everyone from little kids to grandparents smiling and having fun, we know we are on the right track to do something wonderful. We look forward to having the fourth Holiday of Lights Parade on December 7, 2014 and we hope that next year’s Holiday of Lights Parade will be bigger, better and brighter.
