Cold temps don’t deter crowd from Holiday Lights Spectacular

Bitter cold temperatures didn’t keep families from coming out for Brockport’s Third Annual Holiday Lights Spectacular Sunday, December 8.

“The temps didn’t keep people away, attendance was very good,” Stetson Club President Brian Winant says.  “There was a good turnout with smiling faces… we must be on the right track.”

The 2013 prize winning Community Parade entries are:
• Honorable Mentions:  Bentley Brothers and The Dog Wash – $25
• Best Non-Profit:  Nativity Church – $50
• Santa’s Choice:  Partyka Farms – $75
• Most Creative:  Sunnking Electronics Recycling – $150
• Best Overall Award:  Hamlin Fire Department – $175

Winant noted that the floats are now becoming more elaborate and larger – some pulled by tractor trailers. “Participants are stepping up and being more creative,” he said.

He also had many people to thank for making the parade a success including participants and spectators.
“The Brockport Fire Police handle all the traffic,” Officer Winant said.  “They  did an outstanding job.  Without their dedication, this event and others would never happen.  They deserve a round of applause.”

The lighting of the village tree and a visit with Mr.and Mrs. Claus took place immediately following the parade in Sagawa Park.  For the second year, the evening ended with fireworks over Main Street.

Next year’s parade is set for Sunday, Dec. 7.  “We’re thinking bigger, better and brighter,” Winant said.
