Three choral groups sing to support food shelves in Brockport and Spencerport

The ensemble For Singing’s Sake, the Spencerport Community Chorus, and the Sweden Senior Singers will present a concert of choral music on Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 124 Main Street in Brockport. The program will include music from the classical period, mid-twentieth century standard popular songs, spirituals and patriotic songs. The concert is for the benefit of the Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf and the Spencerport Ecumenical Food Shelf. Admission is cash donation or package(s) of shelf-stable food.

Food shelves benefit
Both the Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf and the Spencerport Ecumenical Food Shelf serve families and individuals who are in need of food assistance. Both food shelves obtain the food distributed as donations from local churches, service clubs, organized food drives (scouts, letter carriers, college students, girl scouts aiming for world record food drive) and individuals. Additional food is purchased to the extent resources allow.

As a member of Foodlink the Brockport Food Shelf purchases much of their food from Foodlink. Brockport Food Shelf serves individual and families who live in the Brockport Central School District south of Ridge Road. People who seek food assistance in Brockport can choose their shelf stable food items themselves, and, when available, fresh produce items, with the amount related to the number of people in the household.

Spencerport Food Shelf serves individuals and families who live in the Spencerport Central School District. Volunteers pack and deliver boxes of shelf stable food items – and gift cards to the local supermarket for fresh produce — to people in Spencerport who seek food assistance. For both towns the number of requests for assistance is increasing month-by-month, and resources limit the amount and frequency of responses by all area outreach groups.
