Infant layettes needed for new arrivals throughout the year
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Brockport celebrated Mother’s Day by collecting items for baby layettes to help new moms in need as they welcome and clothe their new babies.
St. Luke’s, working with Unity Health System, offers complete layettes to these special moms. The layettes are distributed throughout the year with the assistance of Unity’s social worker. Since it began, dozens of moms and babies from Brockport and the surrounding area have benefitted from the program. Nicole DeRose, a member of the congregation and a junior at The College at Brockport, directs the campaign.
Twice a year – Mother’s Day and continuing throughout the month of May, and again during the Christmas season – St. Luke’s reaches out to the community for assistance in restocking the nursery shelves with baby items in sizes newborn and 0-3 months.
Items needed for this year’s campaign include: white T-shirts and onsies, gowns and sleepers, receiving blankets, baby bath towels and wash clothes, small bibs, diapers for newborn or size 1, and baby wipes and diaper cream. Body lotion for the new moms is also needed. Gift cards to stores that sell diapers and/or baby clothes are also welcome.
Those wishing to donate can drop off new items at St. Luke’s, 14 State Street, Brockport, between 9 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday. The Mother’s Day Campaign continues throughout the month of May.
