New projects and events planned by Walk! Bike! Brockport!
Walk! Bike! Brockport! (WBB), a not for profit organization whose mission is to promote a high quality of life through walking and biking, reports new projects and reminds the community of its upcoming events.
•$50,000 Grant: WBB and the Village of Brockport have received a $50,000 grant from Rochester’s Genesee Transportation Council (GTC). The purpose of the grant is to develop a master plan for pedestrian and bicycle traffic in the village of Brockport and towns of Sweden and Clarkson. The grant runs from May 2014 to May 2015, and funds the hiring of a professional consulting firm to undertake the project.
•Walking School Bus: WBB has launched a “Walking School Bus” program, led by WBB member and long-time advocate of elementary school age children walking to school, Dr. Jim Goetz. This project centers on encouraging adults to lead elementary school age neighborhood children – their own and others – on a walk to school in the morning. Three days are designated as a “Walking School Bus” Day: Tuesday, April 22, (Earth Day), Wednesday, May 21, Wednesday, June 18.
The “Walking School Bus” project enjoys a wide range of support from the Brockport Central School Superintendent, Town of Sweden Supervisor, the Crime Prevention Officer for Western Monroe County and the Brockport Police Department.
•Safe Routes to School: WBB has developed new “Safe Routes to School” infrastructure safety improvements, thanks to a $10,000 grant received from the Brockport Integrated Service and Community Organization (BISCO) and leadership by Jim Goetz, M.D. WBB’s “Safe Routes to School” in Brockport is part of a national movement across America.
