Brockport Rotary welcomed RWGC speaker Shirley King

Shown receiving a club banner from club president John Egan, Shirley King is one of the five original founders of the Rochester Women’s Giving Circle born about 10 years ago.

Like many who contribute varying amounts to favored charities, the friends in their discussions lamented the fact that small amounts scattered around did not allow for significant impact. By pooling their moneys and setting a $1,000 minimum for each member, they believed they would be able to leverage their funds into a form where they could see selected goals accomplished.

They decided to use their funds to assist women and girls in the Rochester area to find their way to economic self-sufficiency.

In the past decade, they have donated over a half million dollars to various programs that will help females attain these goals. That has been possible because the group has grown to over nearly 130 members with excellent leadership and member involvement.
