The first meeting of the Friends of Hamlin Parks & Recreation took place September 6. The group’s goal is forming a 501(c)(3) status non-profit organization for the enrichment of Hamlin’s Parks and Recreation assets. Once formed, this group will be eligible to apply for grants on behalf of the Hamlin Recreation Department.

The Friends of Hamlin Parks & Recreation will look towards funding a variety of important projects such as the air conditioning for the gym, drinking fountains for the park, a fully functioning concession area, and anything else that will enhance and help maintain Hamlin’s Parks and Recreation facilities and programs. The group is still in its formative stage, and local residents and businesses interested in taking part are invited to participate.

The next meeting is November 7 at 7 p.m., at the Charlie Maier Lodge, in Hamlin Town Park.
