Patriot Guard Riders escort
The Patriot Guard Riders escorted the Pilon family to their newly renovated home and then stayed for the unveiling ceremony.
The Patriot Guard Riders is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that promotes dignity and respect during ceremonies for military heroes, veterans and first responders.
Carl Pilon is a Vietnam veteran. For two months, the Home Depot Foundation and dozens of local business and community members volunteered their time and services and donated materials to renovate the Pilon family home in Hilton. The Home Depot Foundation supports the housing needs of U.S. veterans.
The Pilon family was relocated to a friend’s cottage for two months while their home was renovated.
On September 24, volunteers from the community, Home Depot and local businesses gathered in front of the home as they arrived to see the renovations for the first time. When Suzanne Pilon, a teacher in the Hilton School District, and her children were diagnosed with an hereditary illness, the Hilton community sprang into action to help. The group “Hilton Cares” was formed to help pool volunteers and resources.
Now that the Pilon project is complete, the group plans to help others in the community that are in need.
