The end of September marked the closing of the Spencerport Depot & Canal Museum for the summer season. Seventy-some volunteers helped welcome 167 boats from 22 states and two countries that docked at the Depot this summer, with over 3,000 people visiting.
New this year at the depot was the book club which will continue through the winter, meeting once a month at the Ogden Senior Center. Anyone interested in information can attend the last meeting which is October 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Depot. The history of the towns as told in books by Arch Merrill will be discussed. This summer we tackled the fiction book Canal Town by Samuel Adams which takes place in the town of Palmyra. It is a good read with a bit of local history involved and members highly recommend it.
Along with new donations added to our collections this summer, I look forward to our coming year and future plans. Also the education committee has plans in place for a photo contest involving the community. Watch for information this coming March. And of course we will be back open in December when the Depot will be aglow with the lighted Village of Dickens, along with something for everyone. See you all then.
