New York State Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament coming to Rochester
New York State’s best junior aged boxers – 6 through 15 – meet December 6 and 7 at Wilson Foundation High School, 200 Genesee Street in Rochester for state championships and to take the next step towards a National Silver Gloves Championship at the Wilson Foundation High School.
Most of the outstanding local boxers, including Robert “Pushup” Frazier and Willie Monroe, both National Silver Gloves champions, have come through this event. Local clubs include entries from host Rochester St. Martin, Fight for Life, Baden Street, ROC, and Future. Locals will be challenged by strong teams from New York City, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and others.
New York State Open Class champions will compete for Region 1 Championships January 3 and 4 in Utica versus state champions from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New England. Region 1 champions compete for national honors February 4 through 7 in Independence, Missouri.
The action begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 6 and continues at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December 7. Admission is $10. The event is co-hosted with the Southwest Area Neighborhood Association and the Rochester St. Martin Boxing Club.
