Holiday Lights Spectacular ushers in season

This year’s Holiday Lights Spectacular in Brockport is set for Sunday, December 7.

The parade begins at 5 p.m. on Main Street, but all are encouraged to spend the afternoon in the village’s downtown business district Christmas shopping.

“We hope people come out early and stick around,” parade organizer Brian Winant says. “We are hoping for a good turnout.”

This is the fourth year of the event, Winant notes, and the parade will once again feature glittering and twinkling lighted floats, vehicles of all kinds lit up with holiday lights, marching bands and music. “It’s been four years and it’s getting stronger every year.” Winant says.

“Jeremy ‘Newman’ of the WBEE Morning Coffee Club and Stacey Pensgen of WROC-TV will be serving as MC’s,” he adds.

Following the parade, the village’s tree lighting ceremony will be held in Sagawa Park and includes a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

One portion of the event will be missing this year, Winant says. “We are unable to have fireworks because of state regulations and the lack of available space,” he explains.
Winant also reminds parade-goers that there will be no parking on Main Street after 3 p.m. for safety purposes during the parade.

He adds that there is still time for organizations, groups and individuals to register to participate in the parade with a float. Five hundred dollars in prize money will be awarded. To register call 585-391-3155 or email thestetsonclub@gmail.com.
