Take a class – “Catch the Gardening Bug” series begins March 25

Genesee County Master Gardeners will be offering their popular Coffee and Dessert Series this spring. A variety of gardening topics taught by Master Gardeners along with coffee, tea and desserts are planned.

•March 25 – “Late Blight in the Home Garden.”  Late blight is a serious plant disease that attacks potatoes and tomatoes.  Learn what it is and how to effectively manage it in a vegetable garden.   Registration deadline is March 20.

•April 8 – “Bring on the Butterflies!” Learn about the characteristics and life cycles of butterflies likely to be found in the area.  Find out what plants to grow in your garden to attract butterflies and tips to keep them coming back year after year. Registration deadline is April 3.

April 15 – “Plant a Cutting Garden.”  Learn the basics to planning, growing, cutting and conditioning fresh flowers for cutting.  Registration deadline is April 10.

•April 29 – “Gardening for Pollinators & Native Bees.”  There are 47 species of bumble bees in North America.  Hear about simple steps to create a pollinator-friendly landscape around your home, school or workplace so that you can enjoy butterflies, bees and other friendly fauna.  Registration deadline is April 24.

All programs are from 6 to 8 p.m. at Genesee County Cornell Cooperative Extension at 420 East Main Street, Batavia.  Cost is $10 per person per class.  Pre-registration is required as class size is limited.  Contact Brandie at 585-343-3040, ext. 101 or stop by our office at 420 East Main Street in Batavia to register.  For information visit http://genesee.cce.cornell.edu/events.
