Ribbons remind to support Courtney
Members of the Hilton community continue to show their support for a teenage car crash victim through the color purple: purple ribbons, purple t-shirts and purple bracelets.
Sixteen year old Hilton High School student Courtney Confer was seriously injured July 2, when her car was t-boned at the intersection of Lawrence Road and Route 260 in Clarkson.
She has spent the last month at Strong Memorial Hospital in a coma, however her condition continues to improve and she is now responding to those around her as well as moving her legs, arms and head. Courtney’s family indicated on their Caring Bridge website page that she was expected to be transferred to the Restorative Neurology and Rehabilitation Center at Unity Hospital (formerly St. Mary’s), the week of August 3.
Friends and family members hung the ribbons on trees and around the village shortly after the accident to show support for Courtney and to heighten awareness of her fight to recover. The ribbons also remind people of the dangers of the intersection where Courtney was hit.
Purple t-shirts ($10) and purple bracelets ($5) with the message “Support Court” are also a part of the effort.
Purple has become the symbol of Courtney’s fight because, “she loves the color purple,” a family friend told the Suburban News/The Herald.
