Braille Transcription course offered

Starting September 24, Braille Transcription classes will be offered at the Gates/Spencerport Ambulance building in Spencerport. The course involves nine months of weekly meetings on Thursday mornings and approximately two to three hours per day of weekly homework. Students will learn how to transcribe English into braille.

The braille group consists of all volunteers working from home. Students can set their own schedule and receive support from the group. After receiving the final certification from the Library of Congress, students can join the group in transcribing books, textbooks, cookbooks, hymnals and math for children and adults.

There is a nominal cost for the course, however  the Lions Braille Service of Spencerport will provide the teacher, manuals, paper, the Brailler and limitless encouragement to help students succeed. This rewarding volunteer endeavor will afford one the opportunity to “make a difference.”

A limited number of spaces are available. For information and sign-up call Instructor Sue Keegan at 967-6702, or Chairperson Judy Smith at 392-3153.
