Recycling fundraiser raises over $900 for local family

Hamlin Bottle and Can Return partners with Clarkson
Community Church to raise funds for car accident survivors

On December 24, 2015, Clarkson Community Church Pastor Tony Bartolucci and his 14-year-old daughter, Giana, were in a serious car accident on Redman Road that has led them down an even longer road to recovery. Over the last month, Tony and Giana have both experienced numerous burn surgeries and have begun intensive physical therapy to regain full functionality. Tony has since moved to an in-hospital Ronald McDonald House, while Giana has continued to make significant progress in the hospital.

Among the group of Good Samaritans who rescued the two individuals from the scene was Hamlin Bottle and Can Return Owner, Andriy Basisty. On Saturday, February 20 at Clarkson Community Church, a team of volunteers collected bottles, cans and monetary donations as a fundraiser on behalf of the family. In total, patrons donated over 15,000 bottles and cans, raising $913.56 to directly support the Bartolucci Family’s medical expenses.

In addition to collecting and recycling all donated items, Hamlin Bottle and Can Return implemented their “six cent” return policy for all donations made during the fundraiser, and arranged alternative pick-up services for individuals interested in donating recyclables but could not attend during the specified times.
