Get ready to read this summer

“On Your Mark . . . Get Set . . . Read!” is the theme for the Summer Reading Game at the Newman Riga Library. Beginning on June 27 and ending August 11, school-aged children can play the game anytime during library hours. Players who complete their gameboard will be entered in a drawing for prizes.

Preschool-aged children will participate in an independent reading program with a parent. They must maintain a log and present it at the conclusion of the program in order to receive a packet of prizes.

Young adults are encouraged to read whatever books they choose, allowing them to apply their requisite reading for school to the game for prizes as well.  Adult readers are also invited to participate in a summer reading program – just for fun.

Scheduled programs for area youngsters will include Tell Me a Story, Mike on June 30 at 3 p.m.; Martial Arts Demonstration with the Fighting Arts Training Center on July 7 at 3 p.m.; Magic Guy on July 12 at 3 p.m.; Wegmans Zoomobile to bring Ribbit and Croak on July 19 at 3 p.m.; Library Day games on July 26 at 3 p.m.; and Race through History with Teresa Wood on August 4 at 3 p.m.

The library will host a Bagel Party at the conclusion of the Summer Reading program for all non-adult participants on Thursday, August 11 with drawing names for major prizes. For information, call  293-2009 or visit www.newmanriga.org.
