Call for nominations: Young Women of Distinction
The Women’s Council, a Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce affiliate, has issued a call for nominations for its 18th annual Young Women of Distinction (“YWOD”) Award. The Women’s Council scholarship program supports the belief that young women with promise today will become tomorrow’s leaders. Women’s Council will again team up with Entercom Radio’s 98PXY as its exclusive radio sponsor to further promote the scholarship program across the Greater Rochester region.
“We are thrilled to be partnering again with 98PXY to recognize and empower local women at every stage of their careers,” said Stephanie Seiffert, Esq., Women’s Council president. “An important part of the mission of the Women’s Council is to bring more visibility to the successes of these young, talented women and to encourage them to bring their ideas and enthusiasm back to Rochester to begin their careers.”
Modeled after the ATHENA International Award, the YWOD Award nurtures the next generation of leaders while enabling companies and organizations in the community to grow and prosper. The program is designed to discover and celebrate young women who have displayed outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and involvement in the community. The program is open to all girls in their senior year of high school from the nine-county Rochester region, which includes Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Wayne, Orleans, Genesee, Seneca, Wyoming and Yates counties.
“#TeamPXY is passionate about helping local, young professionals connect with the people and organizations that can build their careers. By participating in the Young Women of Distinction scholarship program and supporting these inspiring young ladies, we can continue to deliver on that promise,” said Megan Carter, Assistant Program Director of 98PXY and host of #TeamPXY with Carter and Corey. “Now more than ever, it’s important to bring awareness to the outstanding success stories of these young women, and help them to further develop their budding careers and confidence.”
From a group of 20 finalists, four top recipients – one each from the Rochester City School District, a school district east of the City of Rochester, a school district west of the City of Rochester, and a school district located outside of Monroe County – will each receive a $2,500 college scholarship, as well as a paid summer internship at an area company. Additionally, all 20 finalists will celebrate their achievements together as guests of #TeamPXY with Carter and Corey at this year’s 98PXY Summer Jam in June. In conjunction with the scholarship program, the Women’s Council will also have the opportunity to recommend eligible finalists to 98PXY for consideration as future student interns and/or paid promotion team members at station events.
Women’s Council will recognize the finalists at a celebration from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7. #TeamPXY with Carter & Corey co-hosts Megan Carter and Corey James will emcee the event.
The nomination deadline is March 16. For more information on the Women’s Council, the Young Women of Distinction Award, or to submit an application online, visit www.rocwomenscouncil.org or contact Nina Shelton at Nina.Shelton@greaterrochesterchamber.com.
