GPAS presents two concerts on May 20 at two different locations

Music aficionados will have a tough decision to make on Sunday, May 20, when the Greece Performing Arts Society (GPAS) presents two different concerts at two different venues: a joint concert with the Greece Concert Band and Greece Community Orchestra at Bethany Presbyterian Church and a concert by the Greece Choral Society at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Both concert locations are on Dewey Avenue in the Town of Greece.

The “Stage & Screen Concert” will showcase the Greece Concert Band directed by BJ Comer and the Greece Community Orchestra directed by Jonathan Allentoff. The program features musical highlights from award-winning Disney and Hollywood films, Broadway musicals and classic operas, including such favorites as “Aida,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” “La La Land,” “Les Miserables,” “Peter Gunn,” “The Pink Panther” and more familiar songs.

“Music from Broadway and other Popular Songs” is the theme for the Greece Choral Society’s Spring Concert under the musical direction of Dr. Rollo Fisher and accompanied by pianist Kevin Wang.

Karen Pearson, the president and coordinator of the 65-member choral group, described the program with familiar musical phrases: “Give my regards to Broadway. Take a trip through the Phantom’s tunnels, attend his Masquerade, and let the spectacle astound you. Climb every mountain or follow the escapades of Esmeralda and Quasimodo. Hum along to Beatles’ tunes.”

Joining the Greece Choral Society for this concert will be the ROC City Ringers, a bell choir directed by Jackie Anderson and Chris Lenti.

The Greece Choral Society’s Spring Concert “Music from Broadway and other Popular Songs” will be Sunday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m., St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Avenue (14616). Doors open at 2:30 p.m. with a suggested $5 donation.
