Lyric Theatre expands with Fringe
The Lyric Theatre will be presenting fifty performances over eleven days at the 2018 Key Bank Rochester Fringe Festival. All performances take place at the Lyric Theatre, located at 440 Prince Street in Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts. This year’s festival begins on Wednesday, September 12 and continues through Saturday, September 22.
In keeping with the spirit of Fringe festivals worldwide, The Lyric Theatre will feature non-traditional performances including: A World Music and Yoga Ballet, Aria under the direction of Missy Pfohl Smith, and countless music and comedy performances. The final day of the festival, September 22, will be Geneseo Day featuring ten free shows performed by college students and faculty.
New this year, Lyric will be partnering with Third Presbyterian Church for a Pop Goes the Bells concert on the Lyric lawn. Patrons can sit anywhere they’d like as they enjoy a cash bar and a selection of Broadway tunes from the newly renovated ninety-one year old carillon and tower. This event is free and open to the public with four performances throughout the festival.
Leading the way at Lyric are three headlining musicals. The tuneful family treat – “Godspell,” performed by members of Lyric Voices and Lyric Voices Up; the cult classic “Carrie The Musical,” performed by RAPA youth actors; and the gender-bending Off-Broadway smash “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” featuring diverse Rochester professional actors.
