RAPA Youth Theatre classes and programs
Rochester Association of Performing Arts (RAPA) offers a Youth Theatre Program that provides children with an opportunity to push their creative boundaries. Working closely with the skilled and professional production staff, children will be exposed to every aspect of the theatre, including singing, dancing, acting, back stage, costuming, props, and technical theatre, receiving a well-rounded theatre experience for a young performer.
Registration guarantees a place in the show. Auditions are held on the first day of the program. There are no refunds on tuition or deposits.
“The Wiz: The Musical”
Ages: 10 to 17

In this adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s magical novel, Dorothy is whisked away by a tornado to the fanciful land of Oz. There, she and her sidekicks encounter Munchkins, flying monkeys and a power-hungry witch named Evillene who vows to destroy them. Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score, “The Wiz” is a musical feast featuring soul, gospel, R&B, and pop. Rediscover the power of courage, heart, brains, and friendship.
“Do-Re-Mi: Experiencing
The Sound Of Music”

In this class, students will learn two songs from “The Sound of Music,” a choreographed number from the show, and tackle scenes from the motion picture. Most importantly, the instructor will lead class discussions and research into the characters development and backstory on what was happening in the late 1930s. The class will conclude with a showcase, featuring songs, dances, and scenes from the Broadway classic, “The Sound of Music.” Perfect for both those new to theatre and those looking to continue their education without the stress of sets or props.
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr.”
Ages: 7 to 12

Eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, sets about restoring an old race car with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car is magic, and has the ability to float and take flight. When the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself, the family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.,” adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home and her fins behind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

Perfect for kids coming out of their shell or for those ready to take center stage and hit their spotlight.
