Joe’s stories – old, new, mostly true

siloSilo Series #3

My father was a farmer by vocation and preference. After immigrating, getting married and buying their own farm, he worked at various other jobs and eventually settled on carpentry as a steady job. It was intended to be supplemental to farming but as others may know, it often was what kept the farm going. He worked for a contractor but would occasionally take a small side job if prevailed upon. One of those was to replace a roof on a silo for a nearby farmer around 1950. The picture below shows two silos, still standing on that farm on Ridge Road in Parma. Out of family pride for his workmanship, I would have to say the roof he built was on the silo that still has a roof.
