Candlelight Vigil held in response to Tree of Life Synagogue shooting
On Tuesday evening, October 30, Sagawa Park in Brockport was filled with about 100 people of all ages holding candles and witnessing against hate. The Candlelight Vigil was organized by the interfaith group Compassionate Brockport in response to the shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. Rev. Lori Staubitz (at right) led the gathering, which featured personal sharing from members of the local Jewish community, in addition to voices from Christian, Muslim, Unitarian Universalist, civic and community leaders. The focal point was an informal altar of 11 candles and 11 stones, supplemented by candles placed by participants.
