Monroe County 4-H youth development educator honored by peers
The 2018 Annual Meeting of the New York State 4-H Educators Association Conference took place October 23 through 25 in Hamilton, New York. At the conference, 4-H Youth Development Educator Susan Coyle was presented with a Special Service Award by her peers.
The New York State 4-H Special Service Award recognizes members of the professional association who have developed a new technique in programming, worked successfully with new audiences, and/or have been innovative in utilizing resources, people and situations.
Coyle’s animal science programming has included support of a newly formed guinea pig club led by a teen leader. Additionally, she created and co-hosted the Finger Lakes Goat Field Day in collaboration with Yates and Steuben Counties with financial support from Cornell University’s Willman Fund. Coyle became a certified Safety Tractor and Machinery Operation Instructor in 2016 and created a certification program in Seneca County, experiencing great success by inviting the Mennonite population to participate.
Director of NYS 4-H Youth Development, Andy Turner, shared, “My interactions with Susan are always positive and uplifting and I have been impressed by her depth of thinking and clear commitment to the Positive Youth Development goals of the 4-H program.”
Coyle expressed her gratitude, “I am truly honored to have been selected for this award. Receiving this support from colleagues is a humbling experience.”
