Rochester City Ballet seeks participants for BalletROC
A few years ago, California Symphony ran an experiment called Orchestra X. It invited people who should go to the symphony but don’t, to go. It asked for feedback on many issues and listened. Since then, ticket sales have increased by 46 percent. Rochester City Ballet (RCB) wants to repeat this experiment here.
RCB is seeking a group of millennials that could or should go to ballet (e.g. they’re interested in fun, culture, and have enough resources for entertainment options) but don’t attend the ballet. This group will come to two performances and report back on their experience – the good, the bad, and the ugly – and RCB will listen and share the findings.
BalletROC cost $5 and is for people who meet the above description. RCB will ask participants for their time and thoughts, but never for a donation. Participants are asked to:
•Attend a performance of Dangerous Liaisons. Ticket is $5 and participants can bring a guest for another $5.
•Spend some time on the RCB website as a regular patron might. This includes searching for information related to the performance and going through the purchase path (a promo code will be provided so participants can complete the purchase for the $5 price). Actually completing the purchase makes it possible for participants to have an online experience that resembles a regular patron’s as closely as possible.
•Join the RCB email and mailing list for the season. Participants may unsubscribe after the 2018-2019 season.
•Keep notes on experiences with RCB at the theatre, on the website, and through marketing communications (emails, mailed collateral, ads). Jot down things you love or hate. The feedback is helpful and appreciated.
•Attend a hosted pizza and beer group in June to discuss experience with RCB to date.
Those interested in participating should email info@rochestercityballet.org by March 9. Include a line or two stating how you heard about the BalletROC program, confirm that you can meet all the required elements of participation, and why you want to participate. Space is limited, but opinions are not.
RCB is seeking 15 to 30 participants, and will respond to selected participants with a promo code to order tickets.
