89.1 The Point wins six awards through the NYS Broadcaster’s Association

WBSU 89.1 The Point recently won six awards in the 2019 New York State Broadcaster’s Association’s Excellence in Broadcasting competition. The six categories include outstanding promotional announcement, outstanding public service announcement/campaign, outstanding spot news, outstanding morning show, outstanding election coverage, and outstanding social media personality.

The Point’s Training Assistant Director Nick Kobel won the promotion category with his entry OMG I Just Sent a Text Into 89.1 The Point. The Public Relations Department won the public service campaign with their event Warming up Western New York. The Point’s News Contributor Nick Kunkle won spot news for his coverage of Sweden Murder. On Air Personality Grace Judge with Sportscaster Anthony Panasiewicz and Newscaster Shay Gauthier won the morning show category with The Dream Team. The news team including Panasiewicz, Gauthier, Amanda Berg, and Derick Abbey won election night coverage with Western NY Local Election Coverage. Operations Manager Catherine Mattis received social media personality with her entry Cat Kane.

The awards will be accepted at the Excellence in Broadcasting: 2019 Regional Awards Luncheon on April 16 at the Country Club of Rochester. The Point has now been recognized at the national and state level 30 times in the past 30 years.

The New York State Broadcasters Association represents over 300 television and radio stations throughout New York State.
