ROPEX National Stamp Show coming to Canandaigua
The ROPEX National Stamp Show will be held at the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, 250 North Bloomfield Road, on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $2 daily, with youth under 18 free.
Stamp collectors from around the region will be attending to buy, sell, exhibit and talk stamps. Sponsored by the Rochester Philatelic Association, this annual event features 16 dealers with stamps, envelopes, first day covers, supplies, postcards, other paper collectibles and coins.
The show is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad Golden Spike and the 50th anniversary of Man on the Moon. Special commemorative postmarks and envelopes will celebrate the occasion used with stamps sold by Canandaigua USPS postal representatives.
Members of the public are encouraged to bring in their items, from individual stamps to entire collections, for free identification and informal valuations provided by knowledgeable club members. If interested in selling, dealers may be interested in buying.
Single-frame and multi-frame stamp exhibits from the best collections in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland will be in competition for medals, special prizes and the honor of being named “best in show” in both categories.
Kids will have fun Saturday with free stamps and activities just for them. Winners from the youth Design-a-Stamp competition will be honored at 2 p.m.
