Free fun for kids at GCV&M

To celebrate the start of summer vacation, Genesee Country Village & Museum will feature Kids Free Week, where kids ages 17 and under are admitted free every day between June 25 and 30. Each day will be filled with outdoor games, hands-on activities and crafts at various village homes, and some canine fun at the John L. Wehle Gallery as part of the interactive Working Like a Dog exhibit. The Gallery will host dog-themed activities including K-9 visits from the Livingston and Monroe County Sheriff’s departments on Friday, dog-themed crafts, and a scavenger hunt. Special guest Mr. Scribbles will visit on Wednesday and Sunday, and Sparky the Fire Dog will be visiting on Saturday, with firefighter hats for kids.

All week, kids can have hands-on fun learning about 19th-century life and skills, from stuffing a ticking mattress and churning butter to a joining a spelling bee at the Schoolhouse. Kids can also join in games of tug-of-war, sack races, frog-jumping contests, and much more. At the farm, guests can meet the Museum’s newest lambs, plus see chickens, pigs, and oxen. On Saturday and Sunday, wagon rides will be added to the mix of opportunities on offer, and there will also be a 19th-century baseball game on the weekend at Silver Base Ball Park.

At the Nature Center, get your hands dirty on a pond exploration with one of the naturalists, plus families can get a preview of one of the summer camps on offer – Earth Camp – and enjoy crafts and snacks with an eco-theme. Each day will be filled with opportunities for fun and learning for kids of all ages. Kids Free Week is sponsored by the ESL Charitable Foundation. General admission applies to all other visitors. For the full schedule of dog visits and village activities, see the Museum’s website at gcv.org.
