The Arc of Monroe, a not-for-profit organization supporting people with disabilities in Monroe County, has been awarded $215,000 in grants from the Trustee Management Board of NYSARC Trust Services to support the Arc of Monroe’s guardianship and recreation programs.
NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNT) that can make dramatic improvements to the lives of people with disabilities while enabling people to maintain eligibility for public benefits programs, such as Medicaid and SSI.
This year, the Arc of Monroe received $200,000 to provide guardianship services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who would not otherwise have a legal guardian or advocate. Supported by Chapter staff and community volunteers, the Arc of Monroe’s Guardianship Program currently provides guardianship supports and services to 34 people and is ready to assist 29 more as a Standby or Alternate Standby guardian. The Arc of Monroe’s Guardianship program is the second largest in New York State.
NYSARC Trust Services also awarded the Arc of Monroe $15,000 to develop new recreational opportunities to enrich the lives of the more than 500 people it supports. The Arc of Monroe plans to use the recreation funds to provide a number of social events and enrichment programs.
