The Big Apple Crunch taking place October 25
In partnership with local farmers across the apple belt of New York, the FarmOn! Foundation will host the sixth annual statewide coordinated Big Apple Crunch at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 25. The FarmOn! Foundation is dedicated to bringing children closer to food and farming with healthy fun, and the Big Apple Crunch brings awareness during apple harvest inspiring New Yorkers to Eat Local
Participants across the state can visit www.farmonfoundation.org to take the Eat Local Pledge and invite family and friends to take the pledge as well. Buy locally-grown NY apples from a farm or farm store near you and get ready to Crunch at precisely 2 p.m. on October 25. Share your Crunch experience on social media with a video, photo, quote, and commitment to New York State agriculture by using one or more of the hashtags #BigAppleCrunch, #FarmOnBite, and #HowBigIsYourBite. The images and videos will be entered in a social media contest to win a $1,000 FarmOn! Victory Garden for the school of the winner’s choosing.
Last year, there were a record-breaking number of 2,300,000 participants. New Yorkers all across the state came together to take a bite out of a New York apple in a unifying action to raise awareness about the importance of supporting our local New York farmers, creating better access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and making it more affordable to eat fresh, local food for our health and for the environment. Students at schools and college campuses across New York State will crunch into an apple at 2 p.m., joined by individuals in hospitals, nursing homes, state agencies, farmers markets, corporate cafeterias, retail establishments, and more, to try and break last year’s record.
