The Department of Dance at The College at Brockport presents performances of DANSCORE on Thursday, December 5, through Saturday, December 7, at the Hartwell Dance Theater in Hartwell Hall, Kenyon Street, on the Brockport campus. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $17 general, $12 for seniors, College at Brockport alumni, faculty and staff, $9 for students and are available online at fineartstix.brockport.edu, by phone at 395-2787 or at the Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office, 180 Holley Street, Brockport.
The department has instituted Community Previews, for which there will be 100 tickets available for $5 each (by the usual means) for many of their performances. The Danscore preview will take place on Wednesday, December 4, at 7:30 p.m. These showings will not qualify for required student attendance.
Two of the pieces on the Danscore program take a look at the immigrant experience from various viewpoints. One, “Ain’t Got No Time for HATE,” is choreographed by professor Darwin Prioleau. “The piece is about the history of immigration in this country. There will be text from authentic sources about Italian, Greek, and other groups of immigrants who were mistreated. … [T]he last five minutes are very positive in how it tries to dissect hate, and how we should have no time for it.”
Associate professor Mariah Maloney has created “Éire” (Ireland), an ensemble work featuring 15 female dancers, steeped in the traditions and culture of Ireland, as seen through the lens of the Potato Famine and Irish diaspora.
