The Monroe County 4-H program will hold another round of air rifle training, using the 4-H Shooting Sports curricula, in the new year. Two 4-H certified instructors, Eric Brewer and Sean McDaniel, will present the five-week course at Rochester Brooks Gun Club in Rush. Youth ages nine to 18 who are interested in the safe and responsible use of firearms are encouraged to register. The course will be limited to eight youth and will address subjects related to STEM, healthy living, and civic engagement. The link to register is https://bit.ly/35kMHAe.
In addition to New York State 4-H Shooting Sports training, Monroe County 4-H’s Shooting Sports instructors have attended Leadership Training through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County and are enrolled 4-H volunteers. In this course, youth will be shooting at field targets in a field target match format. Classes will be outside and youth should dress for the weather. The last class (April 18) will be in a full field target shoot from 8 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m.
The Monroe County 4-H Program introduced the 4-H Shooting Sports air rifle course to youth in the autumn of 2018. This course proved to be a hit with the participants. Youth and parents found the course to be exciting and challenging, appreciating the skill and enthusiasm leaders provided.
