100 years young; Frank Sacheli’s birthday parade

Celebrating a 100th birthday is not commonplace. Celebrating a 100th birthday during a pandemic is even more rare. On Monday, May 18, the Brockport Lions Club organized a birthday parade to celebrate the 100th birthday of Frank Sacheli. Nearly 40 cars, trucks, and police cars paraded down Brookdale Road with signs, horns, and festivities to surprise Frank. Family and friends participated in this surprise, including Frank’s oldest grandson, Christopher, who came all the way from Boston to be part of the event.

Frank grew up in Albion on an onion farm his parents owned. He served as a U.S. Marine during WWII and is well known for owning the Landmark Hotel in the late 1940s. Frank graduated from Brockport College in 1945, married his wife, the late Patricia Curfin, in 1946, and settled in Brockport where he raised his family of four – daughters Kathleen, Anne, and Libby, and son John. Twenty years after becoming a Brockport resident, Frank was elected Mayor. He has lived in Brockport for more than 75 years and still remains active in the Lions Club, sings in the church chorus, follows current events, and sharpens his skills out on the putting range. Frank enjoyed the parade with his long-time friend Toni Ercolano as well as his immediate friends and family.
