Locals encouraged to “Rediscover Rochester”

As more businesses in the Rochester region continue to reopen, Visit Rochester, the official tourism promotion agency for Monroe County, is encouraging local residents to “rediscover Rochester.”

After spending much time at home these past few months, Visit Rochester is encouraging Rochester-area residents to “be a tourist in their own town” and visit Rochester-based businesses and attractions, including museums, restaurants, outdoor recreation, and more. Over the past few weeks, many businesses and industries in the Rochester area have reopened with the health and safety of employees, guests, and visitors top of mind.

With many local residents taking fewer trips out of state or not traveling long distance, this summer is the perfect opportunity to explore the many unique experiences, features, and things to do in Rochester. Whether you visit old favorites or experience something totally new, there is so much to see and do in Rochester this summer.

“Across the country, travel experts agree that the recovery of the tourism industry will start at home and with local residents getting back out and exploring their own communities once again. With this in mind, and knowing the wide range of activities that local residents can experience in Rochester, Visit Rochester is encouraging local residents to stay local this summer. Many attractions and restaurants have safely reopened, and are ready to welcome back guests, helping our local residents to be a tourist in their own town,” said Don Jeffries, President & CEO, Visit Rochester.

To help local residents rediscover Rochester, Visit Rochester has created a number of resources on its website, including trip ideas, a list of open restaurants, including those with outdoor dining, and a guide on what to “know before you go” to local museums and attractions. Resources can be found at http://www.visitrochester.com/rochester-rising. Visit Rochester has also created a new video, Rediscover Rochester, to help inspire a visit to Rochester this summer.

The Rediscover Rochester initiative is designed for both local residents and visitors, though Visit Rochester encourages all visitors to our community to abide by local and state guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is important for local residents and visitors to adhere to these regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing, frequent hand washing, and the use of face coverings.
