The Trucking Association of New York (TANY) Safety Maintenance Management Council acknowledged Kendall Heffernan of Holley, a professional truck driver for Reid Petroleum Corporation, with the New York State 2019 Statewide Driver of the Year Award during a virtual awards ceremony on Friday, September 18.
The award recognizes truck drivers who demonstrate a dedication to their profession and loyalty to their employers. Consideration for the award is given to those with outstanding driving records and who display professionalism both on and off the road. Winners are often very involved in their communities, typically through safety education, civic engagement, or charitable pursuits.
Kendall was recognized for his outstanding safety achievements, dedication to his job performance, contributing to the success of his company’s safety record, and for contributing towards the betterment of the trucking industry and his community. He has been safely driving for 30 years, nine of which have been with Reid Petroleum Corporation. He is very involved with his community, assisting with a variety of fundraisers, teaching 4-H, and participating in activities with his church. He helped to build, and continues to maintain, a community garden within his village as well.
Steven Reid, logistics manager, gave an example of why Kendall has been such a valuable member of their company’s driving team. “Kendall was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident [last year] which in most cases would have claimed the life of the driver and occupants of the other vehicle involved.” He went on to say, “Kendall was commended by responding emergency personnel for his actions of maintaining control of his unit as well as mitigating a hazmat spill of fuel onto the highway.”
Five finalists of TANY’s Driver of the Year Award are recognized each year with one driver selected as the overall statewide winner. The Statewide Driver of the Year is eligible to be nominated for the American Trucking Association’s National Driver of the Year Award.
